about
snip spay usa

Snipspay Usa is the vision and creation of Dr. Monica Schoknecht who saw a desperate need for help in the stray and feral cat overpopulation within her community. We believe in service and volunteering and donating our talents and resources for those in need. The plan is to recruit and enlist small grassroots, community and solo person efforts who are all trying to make an effort to reduce the overpopulation as well as improve the overall health of these cats often seen as disposable or merely forgotten. Currently, Dr Monica and her band of devoted volunteers help these animals through several small rescues (HARP, Whisker Wishes Rescue, Angels Among Us Rescue and 901Feral, Senatobia Animal Shelter) by offering discounted services at her clinic, Arlington Animal Clinic, as well as organizing “SpayDays” in the clinic or at Senatobia Animal Shelter on their days off. Having access to a spay and neuter bus will allow us to reach more local communities in dire need and ultimately allow us to travel the country providing spay and neuter services, vaccinations, deworming, overall health exams, and minor surgical procedures and medical treatments. The goal is to provide these services at a very minimal cost to the community.

SnipSpay USA wants to help any individual who is trying to help out many animals with very little outside financial help. These individuals, like Tiffani Whitby with 901Feral, deserve to receive recognition and assistance for their superhero dedication and drive to make these lives better. They are being part of the solution and not waiting for someone else to help. We want to offer our services to the underfunded small community shelters that are struggling and overwhelmed with animals and can’t afford food, let alone vaccinations and spaying/neutering services. Senatobia Animal Shelter relies heavily on volunteers and donations from the organization Friends of the Senatobia Animal Shelter, who does the majority of the fundraising for any medical and surgical needs as well as most veterinary services and pet food. Groups and shelters like these need our help to reduce their financial burden as well as reduce the number of community and shelter animals that aren’t spayed/neutered. After 25 years of volunteering with Homeless Animals Relief Project (HARP), 5 years with Whisker Wishes Rescue and 1 year with Angels Among Us, Dr. Monica has witnessed the financial crisis these rescues face everyday. Many of the grants and assistance available to groups like these come with huge restrictions or demands based on a very high volume of animals seen and treated. These small groups typically can only spay and neuter 300-1000 animals per year and that number is even less if they are offering fostering and adoption services because of space and limited volunteers. Our purpose with these groups is to reduce their burdens by offering the spaying and neutering as well as the vaccinations and other services they might otherwise not be able to afford.

All of us are working towards a similar goal. We want to work with these entities offering our services to help them achieve success in their communities.

TNR (trap/neuter/release) programs are available all over the country and offer many different services and benefits, including spay/neuter surgeries, ear tipping, vaccinations, and deworming. The goal with ours is to offer the same things we offer to our adoptable patients, ie. spaying/neutering, vaccinations, internal and external parasite control, and infectious disease testing. The difference is that we will also be focusing on the bigger picture of controlling and reducing the spread of these infectious diseases, mainly feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus, both of which are highly contagious and spread through intercourse, bite wounds, in utero and certain bodily fluids. We will be offering and encouraging the humane euthanasia of the stray and feral cats who test positive for these diseases to help with the spread of these deadly diseases to other animals. There will always be arguments for and against the euthanasia of stray and feral cats who test positive for these viruses, but with the overwhelming overpopulation of these cats, as well as cats in shelters and rescues, why should we risk harm or disease on future generations of these cats.
